Endurance moves your training zones

Driftline offers a new and innovative lens for looking at your heart rate. Our discoveries have allowed us to accurately determine heart rate training zones even as they change depending on the endurance level, which ranges from 0 to 100%.

You are unique

We all know that elite athletes can maintain a high speed and intensity for a longer period than the everyday jogger, but until now, the underlying factors have not been well understood or easily accessible. This means that the endurance training pace for an elite runner could be at 75 percent of their maximum heart rate, but for a novice, the same relative intensity would be at 50 percent of their maximum heart rate. In contrast, current estimations for heart rate training zones would suggest that both individuals be at 70 percent of their maximum heart rate to achieve an endurance training pace. With Driftline’s method, both individuals receive a customized training zone so they can maximize their fitness benefits.

Finding your True Training zones

It's not possible to accurately predict your training zones using both an estimate for your maximum heart rate and a standardised percent of that max like the picture below shows. The human body is more intricate than that. One-size-fits-all training zones table Training zones should not be estimated using a one-size-fits-all method

It's possible to get a good estimation of your training zones by doing a VO2max test and getting your lactate measured at different intensities. These measures are however, very physically demanding, invasive and expensive. Driftline offers a new way to find the same information by using only heart rate data and the discovery of endurance. Training zones are directly linked to your endurance, which means that as you improve your endurance, your training zones become closer to your maximum heart rate. That's why a novice needs to go extra slow when starting out and why a seasoned runner can seemingly run forever at a relatively fast pace.

Endurance is therefore a key factor in human performance and is extremely important for optimal training. The other factor Driftline has identified is your maximum running speed. Driftline can not only find your correct training zones after one easy run, but it can also predict the maximum speed you can hold for 3 to 5 seconds. This can be done without ever having to sprint a single step. Imagine taking a whole football squad, making them jog for 20 minutes, and having the ability to line them up from the fastest to the slowest runner. This is what our breakthrough discoveries are allowing us to do.
